Five SCMB research higher degree students competed in the school round of the 2010 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, with one student going on to win second place in the Faculty of Science round.  

The competition challenges PhD and MPhil students to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience.

SCMB students presented to peers and staff judges, with the top three entrants receiving bookshop vouchers and the two joint winners earning a place in the Science Faculty round.

Competing against 12 other Science students, Ms Lucy Weaver was awarded second place for her presentation entitled 'RAPS: Towards Staph's Eradication'.

Lucy's thesis project is 'Vaccine Development against Staphylococcus aureus and Human papillomavirus based on Rigid Antigen Presenting Scaffolds (RAPS), supervised by Dr Joanne Blanchfield and Prof Paul Burn.

The UQ final of the inaugural Australia and New Zealand 3MT competition will be held in the UQ Centre Exhibition Hall, St Lucia Campus on Monday 20 September 2010 from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm.

The Australia and New Zealand Grand Final will be held the following day on Tuesday 21 September 2010 from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm.
