Teachers enhance microbiology skills
A group of high school science teachers have enhanced their professional development through practical training in microbiology techniques provided by the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences.
This annual workshop takes place at UQ's St Lucia campus in February.
The main aim of this year's workshop was to give teachers ideas for incorporating practical microbiology work into their class programing.
Associate Lecturer Elwyn Oldfield, who presented the workshop, demonstrated techniques for preparing media for growing, observing and keeping microbes.
A key benefit was that teachers were able to share ideas and experiences with each others.
"This is the best place for us to meet other teachers who do microbiology", said Martin Hall, from Emmanuel College on the Gold Coast.
"UQ is a great source of ideas for using microbiology in the classroom," he added.
