SMMS Podium Projects to get underway
The much-anticipated SMMS Podium Project will get underway on Monday 30th April. The podium outside of the 3rd floor School office in the Chemistry building will be transformed over a period of 6 months, to include a fully enclosed space for use by both staff and students. The facility will include a small kitchenette/tearoom equipped with fridge, microwave and benchtop area etc. The space will include moveable tables and chairs as well as power and wireless internet access. It is expected that students will utilise the area for informal gatherings and special events such as PASS leader BBQs etc. It is hoped that staff will find the area comfortable for meal breaks and perhaps meetings with students occasionally. Access to the podium now includes an elevated walkway along the front of the Physiology (Sir William MacGregor) Bld and Wheelchair/lift access at the front of the podium. After hours access to the podium will be constrained by glass doors and swipe card. During the 26 week construction period, site fencing will prevent access via the main staircase to the first year teaching laboratories as well as the podium and level three main entrance. Alternative access to levels 2 & 3 will be via the northeastern stair case.
