Professor Mary Garson from the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences took part in the official launch of the International Year of Chemistry 2011.

The Opening Ceremony took place on 27 and 28 January at the Headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation in Paris.

Professor Garson was one of a number of internationally renowned chemists to deliver presentations at the event.

The International Year of Chemistry is a celebration of the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind.
