Mohd Khairul Nisam Mohd Khalid with friendsStudents from the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences were among nearly 800 people to graduate from the Faculty of Science in December 2009.

Graduates, accompanied by family and friends, received their degrees in a ceremony at the UQ Centre.

For most graduates, the ceremony marked the culmination of years of hard work.

One such graduate is Mohd Khairul Nizam Mohd Khalid, who received his class 1 Honours degree in Biotechnology.

Mohd credits the teaching style at UQ for helping him develop the critical thinking skills he'll need in the workforce.

He has already been offered a full-time position in Singapore, and hopes to use this industry experience to launch his career in microbial biotechnology research.

His time studying at UQ not only gave him valuable qualifications to enter the workforce, but also gave him a fascinating cultural experience.

Originally from Malaysia, Mohd praises the multicultural environment at The University of Queensland.

"It's amazing that there are all these different ethnic groups coming to UQ for study" said Mohd. "The teaching environment is very friendly".

SCMB congratulates all its graduates.
