Value adding with the UQ Advantage
First year students are offered Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) in which trained second and third year students offer tutorial assistance.
Second and third year and Honours students have the opportunity to obtain vacation, sandwich semester, or ongoing part-time work experience, via the Future Scientists program, a partnership between UQ and Kelly Scientific, the world's largest scientific staffing firm. Biotechnology students have the opportunity to experience an industrial placement, such as with the CEED program. Those taking BIOT3007 or SCIE3260/1 may be able to obtain credit for a placement.
Students interested in getting research and extra laboratory experience in their undergraduate years have a number of opportunities, including the unique School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences UQ Advantage Student Internship, available to them. Postgraduate Coursework Programs
- Master of Biotechnolgy (also Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma)
- Master of Molecular Biology (also Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma)
- Master of Bioinformatics (also availabe as a Graduate Certificate)
- Master of Science (also Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma)
A student-organised mentoring scheme is available to postgraduate coursework students of the School - details are available at this Facebook page: UQ Molecular Biotechnology Students Club (UQ-MBioSC).
Postgraduate coursework students complete a research project as part of their studies:
- Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biosciences and Microbiology & Parasitology Projects 2015
- Biotechnology Research Projects 2014
Opportunities exist for qualifiying students to complete their project via an industry placement - details available from the coordinator of the Major Research Project course in each program.
