Undergraduate (including Honours) Scholarships

The University of Queensland advertises scholarships available to Domestic Undergraduate Students here and International Undergraduate students here. Scholarships available to International students applying for Honours are advertised here.

Undergraduate (including Honours) Prizes

The School awards the following prizes to our students each year. The SCMB Awards Ceremony generally takes place in May to recognise students with outstanding performances in the previous academic year. Winners are notified by mail when an award recommendation has been approved. Students do not need to apply to be considered for these awards.

THE RACI TREVOR APPLETON FIRST LEVEL CHEMISTRY PRIZE

AWARDED TO:

  • Students enrolled in a program administered by either the Faculty of Biological & Chemical Sciences or the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences & Architecture.
  • Greatest overall proficiency in first attempt at CHEM1020 and CHEM1030.
  1. $200
  2. a certificate; and
  3. either - (a) one year free student membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute if the recipient is enrolling in further study; or (b) one year free membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute if the recipient is not enrolling in further study.

 

THE RACI TREVOR APPLETON THIRD LEVEL CHEMISTRY LABORATORY PRIZE

AWARDED TO:

  • Students enrolled in a program administered by either the Faculty of Biological & Chemical Sciences or the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences & Architecture.
  • Best overall performance in the laboratory components of at least #8 of level 3 courses.
  1. $200
  2. a certificate; and
  3. either - (a) one year free student membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute if the recipient is enrolling in further study; or (b) one year free membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute if the recipient is not enrolling in further study.

 

THE EDWARD TAYLOR MEMORIAL PRIZE

AWARDED TO:

  • Students enrolled in a program administered by either the Faculty of Biological & Chemical Sciences or the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences & Architecture.
  • Greatest proficiency in first attempt at any 3 second level chemistry courses studied in a single year or over 2 consecutive years.
Books worth $200 (voucher)

 

THE AUSTRALIAN LABORATORY SERVICES PRIZE IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

AWARDED TO:

  • Any student.
  • Best result in CHEM2054.

THE AUSTRALIAN LABORATORY SERVICES PRIZE IN CHEMISTRY

AWARDED TO:

  • Any student.
  • Best result in CHEM3009.
$300

 

THE T. G. H. JONES AWARD FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN CHEMISTRY

AWARDED TO:

  • Students in programs administered by the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences.
  • Best overall marks in - (i) #4 of level 2 courses; and (ii) #8 of level 3 courses, in the discipline of chemistry.
$200

 

THE CSR PRIZE IN CHEMISTRY

AWARDED TO:

  • Students completing the BSc (Hons) in the field of chemistry.
  • Highest standard in the program.
$200

 

THE CHEMISTRY HONOURS RESEARCH PRIZE

AWARDED TO:

  • Students completing the BSc (Chemistry) with honours.
  • A high level of achievement in the research component of the honours program and a demonstration of a high potential for independent research.
Money.
(the value of the prize will be approximately equal to the annual income of the fund. This amount is not known for the year ahead until approximately February).

 

THE BIOCHEMISTRY ALUMNI PRIZES

AWARDED TO:

  • Biochemistry students
    • Prize 1 - Highest mark in BIOC2000
    • Prize 2 - Highest overall marks for any 4 of BIOC3001, BIOC3002, BIOC3003, BIOC3004, BIOL3004, BIOL3005 and BIOL3006.
    • Prize 3 - Highest overall mark in Biochemistry Honours.

THE AUSTRALIAN SOCIETY FOR PARASITOLOGY PRIZE

AWARDED TO:

  • Students in programs administered by the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences.
  • Highest overall marks in - (i) one level 3 parasitology course; and (ii) one other relevant biology course containing a significant parasitology content.
$400

 

THE MICROBIOLOGY PRIZE

AWARDED TO:

  • Students completing the BSc program in the field of microbiology.
  • Best overall results in level 3 microbiology and immunology courses.
  • The recipient’s entitlement to the prize is conditional on the recipient successfully enrolling in the BSc honours program in microbiology in the following year.
