Research Students, Staff and Partners
The School has a comprehensive array of scientific instrument installations, used by research staff and students and accessible in many cases to the wider University and public communities. These installations are supported by experienced professional staff. View the list of scientific facilities.
SCMB's research laboratories are well-equipped and observe world-class health and safety standards. Many of the laboratories have been refurbished in recent years, particularly those in the Chemistry Building, some of which won an architectural award for interior design. The laboratories are supported by well-equipped electronic, mechanical and glassblowing workshops and lab preparation and media sections. The professional workshop, preparation and media staff have a wealth of experience.
Honours and research higher degree students have access to the laboratory of their supervising staff member and are provided with write-up desk space.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Coursework Students
SCMB's oursework student laboratories are upgraded regularly. The undergraduate laboratories in Chemistry refurbished from 2002 won architectural awards for their design. The labs provide for both bench experimentation and computer-assisted classroom learning in the same space. Later-year student labs provide access to advanced instrumentation facilities. All major SCMB teaching laboratories utilise modern audio-visual technology to assist students undertaking practicals.
Undergraduate students have access to the Science Learning Centre, while all SCMB students have access to the Chemistry Podium - a space where you can study, work in groups, eat and drink and socialise. Rearrange the furniture, plug in your laptop PC and make use of wi-fi network connectivity.
Postgraduate coursework students also have access to a dedicated study room equipped with computers, lockers and tea/coffee facilities.
