:: Head of School's Welcome

Welcome to the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences at the University of Queensland

The School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences came into being in 2009, having previously been known as the School of Molecular & Microbial Sciences.   The School was founded in 2000 and continues the long tradition of excellence in teaching and research in the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology at The University of Queensland.  The high quality education and training of undergraduates, postgraduates and postdoctoral associates within the School has helped them establish careers in the academic world and the government and private sector.

I invite you to explore the different disciplines that comprise our School and learn about the opportunities offered in our undergraduate courses and research & postgraduate programs as well.  SCMB offers exciting opportunities in areas that range from materials chemistry and nanotechnology, through bioinformatics and genomics to infectious disease research and microbial biotechnology.  We would welcome the opportunity to engage with you as a student, alumnus or industry partner.
