Welcome to the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences at The University of Queensland

The School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) was established in 2009, evolving from The School of Molecular & Microbial Sciences, which was formed in 2000 from a merger of the Departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology.

SCMB continues a tradition of excellence in teaching, research and engagement. Our research is recognized internationally through our high profile academics, our successes in attracting research fellowships, grants, prizes and awards and our high quality research outcomes including publications and patents. We are also proud of our outstanding education and training of undergraduates, postgraduates and postdoctoral researchers, which has enabled them to establish careers in the academic world and the government and private sectors. Our engagement is strong with alumni, industry, schools and the national and international academic community.

I invite you to explore this web-site and learn about the opportunities offered by our School. If you are a prospective student, please consider undertaking honours, research higher degree and postdoctoral research in any of our research themes, which include Medicinal Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Organics Photonics, Infection and Immunity, Cellular Biochemistry, Metals in Biology, Structural and Computational Biology, Molecular Genetics and Molecular Microbiology. If you are studying for a degree in Science please consider one of our majors in Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, and Microbiology.
