Ernest Tee, who graduated Bachelor of Biotechnology with first class honours in 2010, has been named a UQ Graduate of the Year 2011.

Ernest achieved a grade point average of a perfect 7.0 during his four year degree, which he took in the field of drug design and development.

Five Graduate of the Year awards were made at the annual Courting the Greats gala alumni dinner at the UQ Centre on 24 September.

During his studies, Ernest was awarded seven Dean's Commendations for High Achievement, two prizes, a scholarship and a University medal.  He was recognised as one of SCMB's top tutors in 2010.

Ernest, from Malaysia, was the Science Faculty valedictorian at the December 2010 graduation ceremonies and used his honours year to investigate a potential drug to treat antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
