Emeritus Professor Lindsay Sly receives International Award
Emeritus Professor Lindsay Sly is the recipient of the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) Medal for outstanding contribution.
Professor Sly received the medal at the ICCC 12 International Conference for Culture Collections in Florianopolis, Brazil, September 2010.
After his UQ Honours year in 1967, Professor Sly undertook further studies and received his PhD in Microbiology in 1974.
He worked at UQ for over forty years until his retirement in early 2010.
Professor Sly, an Executive Board member and previous President of the WFCC received the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the work of the WFCC and international culture collections since 1972.
The WFCC is an international body within the International Union of Microbiological Societies and the International Union of Biological Sciences.
Its key objective is the support and development of collections of cultures of microorganisms and cultured cells responsible for the ex-situ conservation of important cultures essential for research, industrial applications, and taxonomy.
