A Rewarding Evening
Twenty SCMB students and graduates who achieved outstanding results in 2010 were honoured at the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences Student Awards Evening on 25 May 2011.
The winners received prizes ranging from cash to books to membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.
For the first time, winners of the School's postgraduate travel awards were also recognised.
UQ Alumnus, Dr Peter Kambouris (Director – Innovation & Commercial Development at CSIRO Exploration & Mining), gave an address, before guests enjoyed a cocktail function.
Special congratulations go to three individuals who were each awarded with mulitiple awards: Seth Cheetham, Katherine Ormerod and Suciati.
For many recipients, the evening represented an opportunity to take stock of their studies to date.
"The best part of my studies at SCMB was the hands on practical experience and the exposure to a research environment," said Sonet Chap, winner of the Australian Laboratory Services Prize in Chemistry.
Sonet, who is currently undertaking Honours in Chemistry, also enjoyed the opportunity to be a Peer-Assisted Study Sessions Leader and a First Year Chemistry Laboratory Tutor.
The School wishes to congratulate all award-winners.
